2025 activity report: a year of impact for forests and communities

Planète Urgence has published its 2025 activity report, a document that highlights a year of concrete actions in support of tropical forests, the climate, and local communities.

In an international context shaped by the climate emergency, increasing pressure on forest ecosystems, and declining funding, this report highlights the results achieved on the ground thanks to the commitment of teams, partners, donors, volunteers, and local communities.

Forest conservation, protection and restoration, environmental awareness-raising, community support, international volunteering, and the development of innovative solutions to finance climate action: the 2025 activity report demonstrates Planète Urgence’s determination to take action where environmental and human challenges are most critical.

“The world has never needed solidarity more, nor the effort to rewrite a shared future and carry a vision that brings people together. (…) Together will be the only way to advance this vision of a symbiosis with our environment and with forests.”

Sébastien Pinchon, General manager of Planète Urgence

Acting where the future of forests and communities is at stake

For over twenty years, Planète Urgence has been working in regions where deforestation threatens both forest ecosystems and the populations that depend on them. The NGO is guided by a strong conviction: forest conservation is inseparable from human development.

Protecting tropical forests also means supporting local communities, strengthening their resilience to climate change, and securing their livelihoods over the long term.

Thanks to its local offices in countries of operation and close collaboration with local stakeholders, Planète Urgence develops projects tailored to the social, environmental, and economic realities of each territory.

Key impact figures for 2025

The year 2025 confirms the concrete impact of the actions carried out by Planète Urgence in the field:

  • 1,121,340 trees replanted across active and pilot projects
  • 22,720 direct beneficiaries supported through field-based projects
  • 4,976 reforesters and 400 nursery workers trained to develop sustainable reforestation practices
  • 18,879 children educated on environmental conservation in rural schools
  • 173 volunteers mobilized through the Congé Solidaire®, le Service Civique, la Mission Solidaire et le Volontariat de Solidarité International programs
  • More than 150 companies engaged within the Business4Earth community, including 17 new partners in 2025

These results reflect a strong collective dynamic driven by teams, partners, donors, volunteers, and local communities.

Field projects to preserve tropical forests

In Benin and Madagascar: the Planète Éducation project

In Benin and Madagascar, the Planète Éducation project continues its rollout in rural schools to sustainably integrate environmental education into school curricula. In 2025, 10,518 students were educated on environmental issues across 50 schools in Benin, while in Madagascar, 30 new schools joined the program.

In Benin: the GAPADOU project

In Benin, the GAPADOU project has helped restore sacred forests in the northern part of the country through the planting of 72,000 trees across 20 hectares. The project also contributes to strengthening local governance and enhancing the role of communities in the sustainable management of these areas, which hold strong ecological and cultural value.

In Peru: the CUISCAF project

In Peru, the CUISCAF project supports coffee producers in transitioning toward sustainable agroforestry practices in order to protect the Amazon rainforest. In 2025, 159,000 trees were planted, and 90 farmers received technical support to develop more resilient agricultural practices.

In Cameroon : the FARE, CAMERR et RACINE project

In Cameroon, several projects have contributed to ecosystem restoration and local economic development. The FARE project has notably supported the production and sale of cashew nuts around the Bénoué National Park, while the CAMERR project has enabled the restoration of 240 hectares of mangroves through the planting of 597,000 seedlings. The RACINE project, meanwhile, has supported four local organizations engaged in forest and biodiversity conservation.

In Indonesia: the MERCI and MAHAKAM project

In Indonesia, the MERCI and MAHAKAM projects have continued ecological restoration efforts and support for local communities. In Ujung Kulon National Park, more than 132,000 trees have been planted to restore the habitat of the Javan rhinoceros. In the Mahakam Delta, nearly 140,000 mangroves have been restored, and several women’s groups have been supported in developing sustainable economic activities.

In Madagascar: the DIABE, MOSOTRY and TAPIA projects

In Madagascar, the DIABE, MOSOTRY, and TAPIA projects have strengthened reforestation efforts and the sustainable management of natural resources. More than 1.3 million seedlings were produced, thousands of reforesters took part in restoration activities, and over 670,000 trees were planted under the TAPIA project to reduce pressure on natural forests.

A year 2025 marked by major milestones

The year 2025 marked an important milestone for Planète Urgence, combining the development of new projects, a stronger presence at major international climate and biodiversity events, and the celebration of the organization’s 25th anniversary.

On the ground, several milestones marked the year: the launch of a first project in the Brazilian Amazon through a partnership with the AXA Fund for Progress, the approval of phase 2 of the TAPIA project in Madagascar, the launch of the Way Kambas project in Indonesia to restore degraded ecosystems, and the strengthening of local organisations working to protect mangroves in Cameroon.

The year was also marked by an increased presence on the international stage. At the Université de la Terre,UNOC, and COP30, Planète Urgence brought the voice of tropical forests and local communities into discussions on climate, biodiversity, and nature-based solutions.

In 2025, the organization also celebrated its 25th anniversary at an event held in Paris, bringing together partners, volunteers, teams, and long-standing supporters around a shared conviction: protecting forests also means protecting life and human connections.

Finally, at the ChangeNOW 2025 summit, Planète Urgence officially launched Climate Philanthropy, an innovative mechanism enabling companies to fund climate and forest projects through philanthropy, as an alternative to traditional carbon credits.

A collective mobilization that is essential for the future

The 2025 activity report once again demonstrates that solutions exist when they are built with local territories and communities.

In the face of the climate emergency, Planète Urgence continues its mission: to take concrete action to protect tropical forests, support the people who live in them, and collectively build a more resilient future.
