Training on accounting & finance fundamentals

Training on accounting & finance fundamentals

The volunteer will be in charge of designing and implementing a training on accounting & finance fundamentals for Community Based Organization (CBO) members supported by NTFP.

Description

Objectifs

In the Ratanakiri province in Cambodia, support to indigenous communities living in forestry areas is limited.

NTFP (Non-timber forest products) works in 2 national parks, which represents one of the largest protected landscapes in the Mekong basin. NTFP has played a strong role in helping indigenous people secure their rights to their land and natural resources (Community Protected Areas, Community Forestry creation).
NTFP wants to support the communities in developing new income generating activities to increase their living conditions and better protect their lands.

Malva nuts is a potential high value source of incomes. Missions on how to design a market study are being implemented. Complementary to these missions, it is necessary for members of community-based organizations (CBO) to learn how to efficiently manage the sales.

The mission’s goal is to train, with the support of NTFP team, community’s members on the basics of accounting & finance.

Recourse to the support of Planète Urgence volunteers is important because NTFP does not have the human resources for this mission, or the budget to hire a trainer.

However, the local NGO NTFP (Non-timber Forest Products) operates in two national parks, representing some of the largest protected landscapes in the Mekong basin.
NTFP has played a crucial role in helping indigenous people secure their rights to their land and natural resources, including Community Protected Areas and Community Forestry creation. NTFP aims to support these communities in developing new income-generating activities to improve their living conditions and better protect their lands, such as through the exploitation of high-value sources of income like Malva nuts.

Missions are being implemented to design a market study for Malva nuts, and it is necessary for members of community-based organizations (CBO) to learn how to efficiently manage sales.
Therefore, the goal of the mission is to train community members in the basics of accounting and finance with the support of NTFP’s team.

The support of Planète Urgence volunteers is crucial, as NTFP lacks the human resources and budget to hire a trainer for this mission.

Intervention attendue du volontaire

The volunteer’s intervention will be splited in two parts:
First part:
o Identification of the trainees’ skills and experience in accounting & finance;
o Design of a simple training with NTFP team, including simple templates to be used by the communities.
o Identification of the training planning with the team (who will be training each day).

Second part:
– Supervision of training’s Implementation to CBO members, including :
Introduction to accounting & finance: the basis of sales management (How to use journal entries to record transactions and use t-accounts to summarize transactions recorded during an accounting period) and practical exercises based on real-life situations.

The training must be very simple and practical, taking into account the required time for translation in Khmer, and the fact that most of the community’s members are not educated.
