Training on Success Story Writing & Strategic communication

Training on Success Story Writing & Strategic communication

The volunteer will strengthen staff’s capacities to build storytelling and to teach few techniques for writing and documenting success stories, its thus about general communication capacities.

Description

Objectives

My Village (MVi) is a Cambodian non-profit non-governmental organisation founded in November 2006 and officially registered with the Ministry of Interior on 25 January 2007. MVi operates in the northeast provinces of Cambodia, particularly Mondulkiri, Kratie and Stung Treng. MVi is a recognised local NGO working for Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and has been awarded Good Governance and Professional Practice (GPP) twice since 2012. MVi is currently implementing eight projects funded by eight different donors. The team has limited knowledge and few techniques for writing and documenting success stories, which weakens its ability to demonstrate results and communicate impact.

Beyond storytelling, MVi also needs technical support to develop its overall communication strategy plan — MVi is present on Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Telegram, Messenger and its website, but without a structured editorial approach.

This expertise is not available within the team and MVi cannot currently afford to hire a communication consultant, which motivates the request for a Planète Urgence volunteer.

Action expected of the volunteer

• Week 1 — Preparation with the MVi team:
– Audit of MVi’s current communication presence (Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Telegram, Messenger, website);
– Co-design of a Communication Strategy Plan : target audiences, key messages, channels, editorial rhythm;
– Development of training materials and a success story template;

Week 2 — Training delivery:
– Story structure workshop: how to build a compelling, donor-oriented success story;
– Interviewing techniques for collecting testimonies from community members;
– Photo and narrative integration — practical use of the equipment MVi already has;
– Drafting of 3 to 5 success stories with the team, based on real MVi projects;
– Handover of the communication strategy plan.

Working method: participative and hands-on. All sessions delivered in English with Khmer translation.

Note(s)

Location: MVi office, Sen Monourom. No field visit planned — all sessions take place at the office.
FULL-DAY SESSIONS: participants travel from both Mondulkiri and Stung Treng provinces, so training is organised in full days rather than mornings only.
TWO-WEEK STRUCTURE agreed with MVi:
– Week 1: preparation and development of training materials and tools with the MVi team
– Week 2: delivery of the training to the 17 staff members
Working days: Monday to Friday, over 2 weeks (10 working days).
