Training on Financial literacy for women and community groups

Training on Financial literacy for women and community groups

The volunteer will train MVi staff to become trainers on financial literacy — budgeting, savings, credit and risk management — so that they can then deliver these trainings to community groups, with a focus on women’s economic empowerment.

Description

Objectives

My Village (MVi) is a Cambodian non-profit non-governmental organisation founded in November 2006 and officially registered with the Ministry of Interior on 25 January 2007. MVi operates in the northeast provinces of Cambodia, particularly Mondulkiri, Kratie and Stung Treng. MVi is a recognised local NGO working for Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and has been awarded Good Governance and Professional Practice (GPP) twice since 2012. MVi has identified that many of its beneficiaries — particularly women, youth, Indigenous Peoples, People with Disabilities and vulnerable households — have limited financial literacy and financial management skills. Most rely on seasonal agriculture, fisheries or informal businesses, resulting in unstable household earnings.

This is a TRAINING OF TRAINERS mission: the volunteer trains MVi staff, who will then cascade the content to community groups. MVi’s current capacity in this area is at foundation level, and no training materials or tools have been developed yet — this is a core part of what the volunteer is expected to help produce.

This expertise is not available within the team and MVi cannot currently afford to hire a specialist, which motivates the request for a Planète Urgence volunteer.

Action expected of the volunteer

– Week 1 — Materials development with the MVi team:
– Co-design of visual training materials adapted to Indigenous communities and to participants with low literacy levels (pictograms, simple visuals, minimal text);
– Development of practical tools: household budget template, cooperative budget template, savings tracking sheet;
– Design of the cascade training format MVi staff will use with communities;

– Week 2 — Training delivery to MVi staff:
– Modules on budgeting, savings, credit and basic financial planning;
– Practical simulations (household budget, cooperative budget);
– Training-of-trainers coaching: how to facilitate these modules with community groups;
– Practice sessions where staff deliver a module and receive feedback;

Working method: highly participative and visual. All sessions delivered in English with Khmer translation.

Note(s)

Location: MVi office, Sen Monourom. No field visit planned — all sessions take place at the office.
FULL-DAY SESSIONS: participants travel from both Mondulkiri and Stung Treng provinces, so training is organised in full days rather than mornings only.
TWO-WEEK STRUCTURE agreed with MVi:
– Week 1: preparation and development of training materials and tools with the MVi team;
– Week 2: delivery of the training to the 17 staff members;
Working days: Monday to Friday, over 2 weeks (10 working days).

Type of beneficiaries

MVi staff only — no community members attend this mission. Staff will subsequently deliver the training to community groups themselves (cascade approach).

Profile of beneficiaries

17 MVi staff members — 8 women, 9 men.
Education: 1 PhD (male, 45), 1 Master (male, 35), 15 Bachelors (8 women / 7 men, aged 30-45). Level in the field of training: beginners / foundation level.
TRANSLATION REQUIRED: MVi staff have limited English comprehension. A Khmer-English translator will be provided by Planète Urgence for the whole training (3 days of training).

Number of volunteers required

Expected motivation

Financial literacy training, microfinance, basic accounting.Experience in designing visual, low-literacy training materials.
Training-of-trainers methodology, the goal is to make staff autonomous as facilitators, not to train communities

Interest in women’s economic empowerment and in building lasting local capacity rather than delivering a one-off training. Comfortable working in a rural province through a translator.
