Training on communication strategy and content production for CEDT’s team

The volunteer will be in charge of designing and implementing a training on communication strategy and tools for CEDT’s team.

Objectifs

Community Empowerment and Development Team (CEDT) is a Cambodian NGO funded in 2009. CEDT pursues the objectives to strengthen urban and rural poor communities to improve their housing conditions, their livelihood, to access sustainable natural resources, to achieve security of tenure and to realize their housing rights. The approach that CEDT follows is a people-led, participatory planning process.

Since 2015, CEDT is implementing a Natural Resources Management (NRM) program. The team supports rural communities living in to be recognized as Community Protected Area or Community Forestry procedures. Following a conservation purpose, the recognition guarantees local communities exclusive right on sustainable use of natural resources, in return for management and patrolling of the area. Once the community could access to this status, CEDT also support them into designing and implementing the management plans of these CPAs/CFs.

The team is limited to 4 people, including an executive director, a financial officer and two project managers. A new project manager will soon join the team.

There is no dedicated communication officer
within the team. As an example, all teams member contribute to the social media management. One community leader working on a project, is more specifically in charge to communicate on the projects but he never received specific training on how to do it.

For now, the team write specific reports for the donors and an annual report but has no communication strategy.
The Facebook page of the organization has not been updated since 2015.

The teams wants to develop its communication’s skills to be able to develop on its own better communication material and thus promote its work and gain visibility/credibility among potential funders and partners.
Community volunteers could also benefit from the training, as they are also involved into the communication activities of the NGO.

This mission will consist in providing CEDT’s team with a need-based training on how to build a communication strategy and how to use simple communication tools (social media, activity report, presentations, videos, etc.).

2 missions focusing on communication tools might follow this first mission.

Intervention attendue du volontaire

The volunteer intervention must cover those topics:
• Analysis of CEDT’s team capacities and needs in communication skills
• Provide the team with general knowledge on communication strategy : how it works and why it is important
• Support the team into identifying their communication strategy (identifying their audience, adapting the type of medium/content to the audience, improving the communication content, etc.). The strategy has to be simple and realistic, taking into account the lack of dedicated resources.
• Train the team on how to design simple communication tools the team could use on its own (activity report, Powerpoint presentation, flyers, etc.) and how to manage the social media (Facebook page).
A guide including recommendations and tips for the CEDT’s team will be written by the trainer.
The training must be very practical and suitable for beginners.
