Training on agroforestry techniques for the NTFP’s team

The volunteer will be in charge of implementing a training on agroforestry techniques for the NTFP’s team.

Objectifs

NTFP is a local Non-Government Organization based in Ratanakiri Province since 1996.

NTFP works in Virachey and Veun Sai- Siem Pang National Parks that form part of a 11,217 km2 network of protected areas in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, one of the largest protected landscapes in the Mekong basin. Wildlife surveys in 2021 confirmed the exceptional biodiversity of the KBA Key Biodiversity Area, hotspot) with presence of mega fauna and flora (In total, there are ten CR species present at Veun Sai - Siem Pang National Park that consists of 84.30% of evergreen forest, 13% of deciduous and bamboo forest, and extensive upland savannahs.)
NTFP has played a critical role in helping indigenous people secure their rights to their land and natural resources (Community Protected Areas, Community Forestry creation).

The main projects of the community development program of NTFP are about Long Life Learning and Livelihood Promotion, Cashew Nut Production and Climate Change and Housing Rights.

The team would like to support the communities into new agricultural techniques and develop a new project on agroforestry, including for example mushrooms, coffee or cacao growing techniques. The objective of this project would be to support the community’s access to nutritive food that does not rely on wildlife hunting and that is sustainably produced.

There is a little collection of fruits, vegetables and mushrooms at the moment but which is not sufficient to feed all the community.

This mission’s objective is to, after an assessment of the situation, train the NTFP’s team on how to grow agricultural products in the forest. It might need several missions before the objective is completed.

- An assessment of the possibility to develop agroforestry in the identified areas and the current techniques of the community.

The training must be very practical in order to facilitate the staff’s understanding and application to NTFP’s activities.
