The volunteer will be in charge of designing and implementing a training on business plan for Agrisud and the Green Farmers association teams.

Objectifs

In Cambodia, agriculture employs 50% of the active population and represents 21% of GDP. However, the country’s food and nutritional security is far from being achieved. In Siem Reap, the main touristic region of the country, farmers are struggling to meet the growing consumer demand for healthy and safe products throughout the year.

Agrisud is a French NGO working with local farmers to train them to the principles of agroecology and connect them with the market.
In order to promote the farmers’ products and facilitate their access to the market, producers created a local association named ‘Green Farmers Siem Reap’ (GFSR).

The farmers are facing financial issues due to the Covid-19’s crisis and there is a need to improve the sales of the association to support them.
However, due to the legal constraints linked with association status, the GFSR is willing to start the transition into a social enterprise to be able to adopt a long-term strategy and have access to entrepreneur funding.

In order to diversify local agriculture and create short circuits, Agrisud and GFSR teams need to benefit from training in finalizing a business plan for its future social enterprise.
Recourse to the support of Planète Urgence volunteers is important because Agrisud’s staff is specialized in agriculture, and the team does not have the knowledge needed to support the GFSR in all the components of this transition, including the design of the business plan.

Intervention attendue du volontaire

Providing a technical support for the designing of the business plan, this second volunteer intervention must cover those topics:

Finalize the Business Plan: Develop a Fundraising Information Memorandum specifically tailored to attract Impact Investors.

Initiate the fundraising process: Formulate a joint ventures strategy and identify potential investors.
Support the team in the last steps of the registration process

Remarque(s)

Hours of training: The local staff will be available 3 to 4 hours a day on average in the afternoons as they usually are on the field in the mornings (from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.)

Field trips can also be arranged for the volunteer to better understand the project.

Historique

AGRISUD, Association de Solidarité Internationale, contribue depuis 1992 au développement des pays du Sud dans une démarche délibérément économique. Sa vocation est de lutter contre la pauvreté en mobilisant les ressorts de l’économie de marché pour faire passer des populations de la pauvreté à l’autonomie économique et sociale. La création de très petites exploitations et entreprises (TPE) agricoles familiales, permet en effet de générer des activités économiques, créatrices d’emplois et de valeur ajoutée en répondant aux besoins des marchés (produits locaux pour des marchés locaux, réduction des importations). La méthode adoptée repose en particulier sur une connaissance fine des marchés et des filières concernées, et sur un processus de professionnalisation et d’accompagnement des entrepreneurs dans la création et le développement de leur activité. La démarche est délibérément agroécologique, en privilégiant des pratiques de bon sens qui permettent de concilier productivité avec faible pression sur l’environnement et gestion durable des ressources naturelles. Depuis 1992, Agrisud a lancé 37 400 TPE, soit plus de 132.000 emplois, en Afrique, en Asie du Sud, en Amérique du Sud et en France. Ces TPE sont pour l’essentiel des exploitations agricoles qui vendent sur les marchés locaux des produits répondant à la demande locale : légumes, fruits, cultures vivrières, produits de petit élevage, etc. Ces exploitations sont profitables et durables. AGRISUD s’implique depuis 1995 dans le développement du Cambodge. L’association travaille le plus possible avec des partenaires locaux dans ses différents pays d’intervention. Au Cambodge, elle a appuyé la création d’une ONG locale Agri-Cam. Agrisud collabore également avec les services déconcentrés de l’Agriculture et du Développement Rural à Siem Reap. Plusieurs programmes ont été menés depuis 1995 au Cambodge, parmi lesquels : -le programme d’appui au développement de l’agriculture périurbaine (PADAP) dans 4 provinces : Pursat, Siem Reap, Battambang et Kandal, de 1995 à 2002 sur financement AFD ; -le programme d’appui au développement de la sécurité alimentaire (PADSA) dans la province de Banteay Meanchey, de 2003 à 2006 sur financement Union Européenne. Ces 2 projets poursuivaient globalement les mêmes objectifs : -répondre à l’accroissement de la demande en produits alimentaires (locale et touristique) par une offre locale ; -augmenter les revenus des producteurs par l’élévation du niveau technique et par la diversification des productions ; -dynamiser les filières maraîchères, fruitières et d’élevage.

A member of Agrisud’s staff will welcome the Planète Urgence volunteer at the airport and accompany him/her to his accommodation (approx. 20min)

Volunteer will travel every day with local transportation (rickshaw) from hotel to office, which takes approx. 10min.
