Right now, the beneficiaries are engaged in tailoring activities and produce more fancy bags, lampshades, cushion covers etc. Since 1988, as the orders from local and export market are challenging, we have to survive with the sales by attending the exhibition / sale on consignment basis by 40% and the orders from the Export Facilitators of 60 %. From the past records, we find that we are getting fewer orders from the export market and the responses were also less to our handcrafted items - due to old designed products. But, high demand is there for our natural products in European markets - which have to be tapped-out for the regular orders by means of offering new designed and utility based products with colour and trends. In our sales, the consignment sale involves more investment of working capital, as the result interest on working capital reduces the income and thereby reduces the social benefits for the beneficiaries. Therefore, the training on designing and development of new products will solve and reduce the above problems and give an opening for the future development on marketing of our products. Our need today is to adopt the changing trends, fashion and designs of the products to provide a regular income to our women groups. Results expected : - for the participants : 1. Technical knowledge on designing and development, 2. Exposure to new products and marketing approaches, market trends etc. - In terms of Organisation : 1. Getting more orders to sustain the livelihood activities of TAS regularly. - For the erea : 1. Assured employment opportunities to the marginalized women groups in and around Pondicherry, 2. Ensured new technical training activities on Designing, Tailoring, Embroidery, Marbling work etc.
